Volunteer Emergency Assistance Receptionist

Position Summary:
The purpose of the receptionist is to provide the first contact point for PATH clients in crisis situations.
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be able to volunteer time and services
- Must be an effective and positive communicator with ability to impart information and direction to clients on their level of understanding
- A minimal amount of computer literacy is helpful
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other personnel and volunteers
- Ability to effectively cope with a diverse client population and their families and work under conditions of moderate stress
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
Responsibilities:
- Work a morning or afternoon shift in emergency assistance. Shifts are scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Other flexible schedules are also available if needed.
- Assist phone and walk-in clients in their inquiries for emergency assistance
- Direct walk-in clients to sign in and gather proper documentation for services
- Assist emergency service clients in filling out intake form as completely as possible
- Make appointments for clients needing utility assistance
- Look up client on computer to verify if client is eligible for assistance they are requesting. Also double check that all adults listed in the household have been checked on the computer to determine if one of them has been to PATH before
- Pull client file from file cabinet, insert intake form, and place file in box for caseworkers
- Start new files for new clients and attach copy of required documentation
- Refer clients to other community resources when appropriate.
- Make a copy of receipt brought in by returning-clients. Pull client’s file from the pending file cabinet and make sure all the stipulations the caseworker has written in the file have been fulfilled. Then place file in proper place to be paid or pledged.
- Keep all client information confidential.
- Resolve complaints within scope of information and authority and refer to others, as appropriate.
Accountability
Receptionists will work closely with the Emergency Services Coordinator, Emergency Assistance staff and volunteers. Receptionist will report to the Volunteer Coordinator and Emergency Assistance Staff.
