Position Summary:
The purpose of the Caseworker is to assist PATH clients in crisis situations with emergency services.
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be able to volunteer time and services
- Ability to respond to and interact appropriately with other personnel and volunteers
- Ability to effectively cope with a diverse client population and their families and appreciate difference in value systems
- Ability to accept responsibility and utilize sound judgment in making decisions
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to document with clarity the services provided
Responsibilities:
- Work a morning or afternoon shift in emergency assistance. Shifts are scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Other flexible schedules are also available if needed.
- Notify the Volunteer Coordinator if you are going to be absent, and find a substitute for your shift.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with PATH clients seeking help through Emergency Assistance
- Interview client to identify the situation that created the client’s emergency and attempt to problem solve with the client.
- Verify that intake form has been filled out correctly and completely.
- Assess the client’s need for assistance and determine if the need is legitimate.
- Fill out vouchers or make commitments for needed services
- Refer clients to other community resources when appropriate.
- Refer to staff member when client’s need exceeds PATH guidelines and Caseworker feels an exception would be appropriate
- Document in client’s file the cause of need, and any service provided.
- Keep all client information confidential.
- Resolve complaints within scope of information and authority and refer to others, as appropriate.
Accountability:
Caseworkers will work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator, Emergency Services Coordinator and emergency assistance volunteers. Caseworkers will report to the Emergency Services Coordinator.
