Position Summary:

The purpose of the Caseworker is to assist PATH clients in crisis situations with emergency services.

Special Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to volunteer time and services
  • Ability to respond to and interact appropriately with other personnel and volunteers
  • Ability to effectively cope with a diverse client population and their families and appreciate difference in value systems
  • Ability to accept responsibility and utilize sound judgment in making decisions
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to document with clarity the services provided

Responsibilities:

  1. Work a morning or afternoon shift in emergency assistance.  Shifts are scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM or 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM.  Other flexible schedules are also available if needed.
  2. Notify the Volunteer Coordinator if you are going to be absent, and find a substitute for your shift.
  3. Work cooperatively and effectively with PATH clients seeking help through Emergency Assistance
  4. Interview client to identify the situation that created the client’s emergency and attempt to problem solve with the client.
  5. Verify that intake form has been filled out correctly and completely.
  6. Assess the client’s need for assistance and determine if the need is legitimate.
  7. Fill out vouchers or make commitments for needed services
  8. Refer clients to other community resources when appropriate.
  9. Refer to staff member when client’s need exceeds PATH guidelines and Caseworker feels an exception would be appropriate
  10. Document in client’s file the cause of need, and any service provided.
  11. Keep all client information confidential.
  12. Resolve complaints within scope of information and authority and refer to others, as appropriate.

 

Accountability:

Caseworkers will work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator, Emergency Services Coordinator and emergency assistance volunteers.  Caseworkers will report to the Emergency Services Coordinator.
