Why I Volunteer at PATH

Comments Off

I give my support to PATH because I feel lead by God to help.  I believe this is what God wants me to be doing with this part of time that He has given me.  I receive much more from helping at PATH than I believe I ever give.

As a Caseworker at PATH, I can give “instant hope” !  Through our networking, and the generosity of the community,….I have been made AWARE of “avenues of hope” for our clients.  “Do you know about this?  Have you checked with ….?  We can get you ……?  Why don’t you…… Here’s where you can find help with ……Here is our latest Job Postings, what are your job capabilities ?”  And on and on…..If we have Hope, we can make it …. and PATH gives Hope !  How about this for a mission statement:  Not just handouts,….HOPE !

Volunteering has been a part of who I am since I started working for Target in 1998.  They instilled in me that helping the community you live in, strengthens the whole community.  PATH is a wonderful organization that gives a helping hand to those in need on various levels in the Smith County area.  When I volunteer at PATH, I know I am helping those in need provide for others such as their kids, friends, spouse, parents, and in some cases even grandchildren.  PATH has so many programs that address the different needs in our community, such as their annual drives where donations of necessities are collected and distributed to those who need them most, from school supplies and toilet paper, to blankets and coats; PATH’s housing program that helps people get back on their feet with low-cost housing options; PATH’s prescription program that helps those who can’t afford their medication and would otherwise go without; PATH’s mentoring program that matches dedicated mentors to children in our community and PATH’s resources for continuing education, job searches and computer assistance.  PATH also provides its clients with referrals to other resources outside of their scope because they want to provide people with the help they need, when they need it most. I volunteer at PATH because they reach so many people on so many diverse levels of need to help improve the community we live in here in Smith County.

I continue to volunteer at PATH because it is an opportunity of a lifetime to give to the community.  Not only do I benefit from this opportunity to give, the commarderie with other volunteers and the professional staff is a bonus gift to me.  Smith County is very fortunate to have an organization such as PATH that sets very high standards for giving to the community.

If I can assist someone who really needs help, I’m so glad to help.  Knowing my one phone call may be the difference in continuing their care to better health. Also, enjoying being out among people.
