The reason I believe in PATH is best said in PATH’s Mission statement-”PATH’s mission is to serve, through well-equipped volunteers, the economically disadvantaged people in Smith County with both emergency assistance and programs to empower and encourage them to become self-sufficient.” I am especially proud of the way PATH’s staff and volunteers are able to guide and direct our clients to other non-profits when necessary.
Dr. Stuart Baskin, President
I believe in PATH because it is people of faith reaching out in compassion to provide hope and help other people in need, regardless of their faith. It is one of the few places that provides help across a range of human needs. And where PATH can’t help, we can almost always point people to the right place to find the help they need.
Ed Thompson, First VP & Chair of Governance Committee
I support and serve on the Path Board because the organization clearly demonstrates a concern for those who are hungry and in need of support services. In my mind, I cannot even imagine how East Texas would be with out PATH. PATH gives supportive services in just about every category of living. I feel good that PATH helps to lift the burden from the shoulders of struggling parents. Children who would otherwise go to bed hungry are falling asleep with full tummies. Seniors, who often have no money left for food after they pay their bills, can gracefully heat their homes this winter and eat, too. When I look back at 2011, it’s exciting to see all that has been made possible through our partnership with local agencies and, you, our compassionate friends.

I believe in PATH because it not only helps people survive through today’s struggles, it also gives them hope that tomorrow will be better and brighter. I have personally seen how someone’s face lights up when they realize that PATH is there, without judgment, to share their burdens and lift some weight off their shoulders. Remembering these faces lights a fire in me, too, and makes me want to work hard for PATH and its future.
Mick Alleman, Chair of Finance Committee
I support PATH because of its comprehensive Five Steps approach to helping people in our community. Prevention, Rescue, Stabilization, Growth and Independence are all essential to improving the lives of those who seek PATH’s help.

PATH is PEOPLE ATTEMPTING TO HELP other people learn to help themselves. Lots of organizations give stuff and that is necessary, but I chose PATH because WE attempt to change lives

I have the opportunity to not only serve on the PATH Board but I am also a volunteer case worker for the organization. This provides me with the opportunity to meet the people we serve, to see what we are doing right and to also see what we are doing that could be improved. PATH fills a big gap in many peoples lives, whether they have just lost a job, are elderly or have an emergency medical need or just plain looking at an empty pantry. The need is great in Smith county and it is the Board’s mission to follow in the steps of those who began this non profit, and do our best to be all that we can be. PATH is a compassionate organization , driven by the heart of those who feel called to make a difference to young and old alike, no matter what circumstance they find themselves in. It is my desire that PATH will continue to be blessed in 2012 and to be a blessing to those in need. Without our donors, both financial and in kind gifts, PATH would not be able to operate.
