I wanted to give you a brief summary of how things are going at PATH. Despite the pandemic, the economic disruptions and governmental orders, we are still open and operating and serving our hard working neighbors in need of East Texas! We are taking every precaution we can to keep our staff and volunteer workers safe and healthy, and we have committed to the job security of our paid staff for the duration of this crisis, Lord willing.
Our staff members have done a remarkable job problem-solving, working together and stepping up to provide the hope and relief our neighbors are seeking. This would not have been possible without the help of several new volunteers who stepped in to assist during this crisis time. Early on we revised our methods and protocols to streamline our food distribution and implemented recommended social distancing practices that we are all familiar with these days. All in all, we are tired and stressed, but our management team is proud of our successes and are hopeful that we can serve increasing numbers of our neighbors.
Our community appeals for funding for a COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund are generating additional funding in order to meet the changing needs of our neighbors. Last week we were searching for bread and buying $10 gift cards; this week calls for rent and utility assistance are increasing as evictions are now back in effect. Our fundraising efforts will continue as we have no idea how long this crisis will last and what new needs will emerge both during and after COVID-19 subsides.
I recognize that this is not a sprint, it’s more of a marathon effort as we expect to be in this paradigm for months to come. Your prayers, encouragement and support are invaluable to our entire team and most importantly, those we serve. We hope to come through this time in a healthy way, continuing to bless the community with hope and relief.
Grace & Peace,
